They had a party on the Friday (I assumed it was a flat warming) that went on into the wee small hours. As a one off, not ideal, but it's fine. Saturday - another party. I bang on their door but they don't answer. Ok, they're having two flat warmings. Nope. Sunday evening comes round and loud music and shouting until like 3am. This time I call the council noise team who call the police. The music comes to a stop. Monday evening - party.

Tuesday evening - Party. Wednesday - Party. Thursday were nights off & back to parties and shouting Friday onwards. This went on and one for a few weeks. The police and council were called by me and others in the building.

About 4am one morning, I'm woken by upstairs shouting down to someone in the street and banging on the door. Apparently they'd thrown their keys down so their friends could let themselves into the stair, but having not caught the key, started trying to break the door window with a small rock. As I leave from work, I look down and find a bunch of keys, along with a pre-payment electric key. I pick them up for...... Safe keeping.

As I come home that evening there's three or four people searching the bushes looking for keys. I smile, say Hi & walk past them - opened up my balcony door so I could hear them. Turns out they didn't have a lot left on their electric meter & can't top up without the key. About two days later, it goes quiet - I assume they ran out of electricity. I decided I really shouldn't keep their keys and it didn't feel right to to bin them. So I stuck them in an envelope with loads and loads of glitter. A

Since postage hadn't been paid. The Royal Mail would put a note through the door and they'd have to trek down to the post office & pay to get their letter filled with glitter & keys.

Not long after, the landlord ended up evicting them, especially as the owner of the property found out about all the noise complaints and passed her number round and told folks to call her whenever they had an issue - lord knows how many 3am calls she got

enrave03 1 hr. ago What's a pre payment electric key? I have never heard of that before.
  • 13
officialslacker OP. 52 min. ago It's basically pay as you go electricity. You'd put say £20 on the meter and as you use electric, that £ amount goes down, you'll then need to top up more money. Typically if you get one of these, it's because you're not paying your bills

enrave03. 50 min. ago oh that's kinda cool. So the electric company will have to come out and install that or is it like normal to have that built in in some apartments?
  • 15
officialslacker OP. 14 min. ago The energy company comes out and installs it. Although you can sometimes find them left over from a previous tenant but can get them changed over quickly if needed
